There is something a little ridiculous about knowing exactly what makes you feel better and then somehow... not doing it.
Not because you decided it wasn’t working. Not because you found something better. You just slowly stopped. One morning becomes two, two becomes a week, and suddenly you realize the thing that used to be part of your routine has quietly disappeared without so much as a goodbye.
That was me with my protein refreshers last week.
I let them fall off, and honestly, I noticed the difference. I feel SO MUCH BETTER when I have them in the morning. Getting protein in early changes the way the rest of my day feels. I feel more energized, I am more intentional about my food, and I am not standing in my kitchen at the end of the day trying to figure out how I am going to make up for all the protein I did not eat earlier.
Sometimes the things that make the biggest difference in our lives are not new discoveries. They are the things we already know work, but stopped doing somewhere along the way.
I think that is why I am paying attention to this one this week. It would be very easy to notice that I have not been feeling as good and immediately start looking for something new. A new routine. A new product. A new strategy. Something exciting that gives me the feeling of finally getting back on track.
But I don’t actually need to get back on track by creating a brand-new track.
I just need to make my protein refresher again.
That is part of my Monday Focus this week, along with getting three workouts in. Not seven. Not working out every day because it is Monday and apparently Monday is when we all temporarily believe we have the schedule of a professional athlete.
Three workouts.
Protein in the morning.
That is the focus.
The Problem Isn’t Always That We Don’t Know What to Do
I think one of the most frustrating parts of trying to change your life is that eventually, you start collecting information faster than you can possibly use it. You know about protein. You know about walking. You know that sleep matters. You know movement is good for you. You probably have a few meals you genuinely enjoy that help you hit your goals, and a handful of habits that make you feel noticeably better when you actually do them.
The problem is not always that we need more information.
Sometimes we need to trust the information we have collected about ourselves.
You can spend years looking for the perfect plan while ignoring the small things you have already proven work for you.
That is what I realized about my protein refreshers. They are not complicated. They are not revolutionary. They are not the newest thing I have discovered on my weight-loss journey. They are simply something I enjoy that helps me get protein in early and makes me feel better.
And apparently, that should be enough of a reason to keep doing them.
I think we sometimes dismiss simple habits because they are not exciting enough. There is no big transformation attached to making a protein refresher in the morning. Nobody is going to write a documentary about it. It is just one small thing that makes the next part of the day easier.
But those things matter.
