190.
Yesterday it was 189, so naturally I would have preferred to wake up to that number again this morning. But I’m not mad about 190.
I’m also on the very last day of my period, and I can tell I am holding onto some water. My wedding ring is tight today, and it normally isn’t. That’s one of those little things that makes me think the scale is probably not giving me the complete picture this morning.
So I’m going to let 190 be 190.
Because the bigger thing I am looking at is that I am still down from where I started when I began tracking my food. And that is what matters to me right now.
I think it is really easy to get caught up in the daily number when you’re weighing yourself regularly. You see 189 one day and 190 the next and immediately start trying to figure out what you did wrong. But a one-pound change overnight isn’t a failure, and it doesn’t erase the progress from the week before.
The scale is giving me information. It isn’t giving me a grade.
And I think that distinction is becoming more important to me the longer I do this.
I’m not interested in having one really good week followed by a week where I completely lose my mind because I can’t maintain whatever I did. I want to see what happens when I make small changes that I can actually live with and then give them enough time to tell me something.
So This Week, I’m Going to Change a Few Things »
